Finding Our Way Through the Lockdown

It’s been an unusual start to the spring of 2020.  There’s never been a time like this in recent history. With the current restrictions, most people have had to self isolate for the first time ever. The social distancing rules have a lot of people on edge also, some people don’t acknowledge it and others don’t want anyone within 50 feet of them.  It’s been a very stressful time.

Restrictions like these can be hard to deal with. It’s normal to feel worried, frustrated, anxious and bored. Fortunately we have the internet. There are hundreds of websites for keeping in contact, self-help, entertainment and education.   It might be a good time to take up a new hobby.  You might like to try your hand at art, writing or playing guitar.   There are “how to guides” on almost any topic you may be interested in at your fingertips (literally).

Follow the link below for some fun and educational websites:

Some useful tips that I have found to help with isolation are:

  • Eat well and stay hydrated
  • Continue accessing support and treatment if needed
  • Take care of your immediate environment, stay tidy
  • Find ways to work or study from home
  • Stay connected with friends and family
  • Try to stay active and exercise if possible.
  • Have a routine
  • Get as much sun and fresh air as possible
  • Be creative and keep your mind stimulated

We are looking to the future when we can get together as a group once again.  We are planning to begin the Dads Can meetings as soon as the restrictions have ended. We would also like to promote new groups in the Lliswerry and Pill areas of Newport, while continuing the Abergavenny group.

Your input is very important to us and we would like to know what you would like from Dads Can. What kind of activities would you be interested in?

Skills and educational training. Art, building, music.

Physical activities. Ball games, hiking, bike riding, fishing.

Day trips to local attractions. Raglan farm, Greenmeadow farm.

These are only a few suggestions, we would like to hear from you.  Is there somewhere that you like to go or a sport or hobby that you like? What are your interests? Where would you like to take your kids? We’re getting all of the ideas together, so when the restrictions are over we can hit the ground running.

But for now, stay home, stay safe and we’ll see you soon.

And by the way, even though you can’t see us around, we are all still here for you.  Only a phone call away and feel free to call us with ideas or worries and concerns.
